Domestic Residents

We have many residents here at Woodlands Animal Sanctuary. To see and learn a little about our constant companions read below

Mathilda, a domestic shorthaired black cat came to us as an unwanted pet. Nobody offered her a second chance so she is now a resident.
Heidi, an 8 year old semi-feral, and Daphne, a 6yr old white/black semi-feral are the very best of friends. Neither were tame enough to re-home when they arrived but over the years have become much more affectionate and will now come to us for cuddles.

Muffin came to us 11 years ago as a feral kitten. He could not be tamed but has lived a very happy and fulfilled life as one of our residents.

Lucky was the only surviving kitten from a wild mother. She took a very long time to trust humans, by which time she was so settled with the existing cats it was felt better not to rehome her. At 10 years old she enjoys nothing more than sunbathing in the extensive gardens.
Snoopy was was handed in as a stray by a member of the public and seemed friendly.
However once confined to a pen he became extremely vicious and threatened to attack.
It was decided to try an out door house and release him. He settled immediately and although he won't go to strangers he enjoys a cuddle at night when all is quiet.
Harriet came in with her brother William who were living rough in a garden, both very frightened having never been handled or shown kindness. William came round very quickly and soon found a loving home. Unfortunatly the people were not prepared to take Harriet so she stayed and palled up with Muffin. She is still very nervous but comes back each night for her tea and a nice warm bed for the night.

Alfie was rescued from a caravan park with severe cat flu at about 12 weeks old. He had never been handled so was completely wild. Two of his brothers found a new home as farm mousers but Alfie remains happy here with people he knows and trusts.

Charlotte is Alfie's sister, she is even less trusting of strangers but leads a happy life roaming the gardens and sleeping in the communial beds in the lounge with her friends

Daisy May was collected from a garden in Ormskirk back in March 2005, with her brother and sister at only 3 weeks of age, as their mother had abandoned them . They were all sucessfully hand reared and ready to go to new homes when her brother Dandy developed the dreaded symptoms of a deadly virus. He was given sleep aged 10 weeks to save futher suffering. Shortly afterwards his sister Rosie also lost her fight for life leaving Daisy May the only survivor. Still with us after 6 months Daisy May will hopefully make it and lives life to the full playing, climbing the curtains and just being a kitten !

Beauty was handed in some years ago having been trapped as the people no longer wanted her in their garden, she was very timid and still does not trust strangers

Hetty was another unwanted black female a bit shy so was constantly overlooked.
She has happily lazed around the Shelter now for several years but is still not keen on strangers. She has recently undergone
surgery for a tumour that has saved her life.

Milly was from an abandoned litter of wild kittens. After much seaching for a suitable stable home, she joined our residents but still refuses to let anyone touch her beside a quick stroke when evening checks are taking place and everywhere is very quiet.

Monty was from the same litter as Millie but over the years has become more trusting letting volunteers stroke him if he's in the mood.

Elsa came to the Shelter about 12 years ago. She was wild and not used to people.
She had sustained an injury which left her blind in one eye .She settled here as an outside cat and has her own small heated house and private food supply and enjoys cuddles from Jacqui but only late at night when it's very quiet.

Tia was born at Rufford tip. Unfortunately Tia and the rest of the litter were too old
to trust people so remained at Michelles house where she have access to the fully fenced garden during the day.

Sasha was living rough in Croston. It is unclear whether she was wild or had been severely ill treated, which left her unsuitable to re home as to this day she will attack if she feels threatened. She is fostered by Michelle.
Wilma was handed in to the Sanctuary with her son Ronnie when her owner died, a year ago. After exhausting and expensive tests no reason could be found for strange breathing so the Vet suggested she and Ronnie stay as Shelter cats as they had settled here so well. Wilma is believed to be 12+.

Izzy pictured with her friends was trapped as a kitten but her and her littermates were found to be feral and had to undergo taming. After many weeks went by we managed to rehome them. But Izzy and her brother had to be returned as they lived up a chimney the first time and behind a fridge the 2nd time. They never really trusted strangers so went to stay with their original foster mum, where they live happily.

Freckles was handed in with her sister having been born in a garden. She gained trust slowly with the people she knew but would not tolerate prospective new owners. She has shared the house here ever since.

Garfield was found on a bird table eating bread which was his only source of food. After a successful trapping it was obvious he was completely feral so it was decided that he should stay here with the people he knew.

Alice was handed into to the vets ,so badly matted, her head was stuck to her chest.
This was caused by several diseased teeth and infected gums. After surgery and a full body clip, she made a remarkable recovery and was not the geriatric cat the vet first thought
.

Sadie was born at Rufford tip. Unfortunately Sadie and the rest of the litter were too old to trust people so remained here at the Sanctuary in our specially adapted Feral pen where they have access to the great out doors during the day.

Tara was one of 3 large black kittens that didn't like people. She joined our existing ferals
where she has lived happily for over 10 years. She suffers from an immune problem and
requires monthly Veterinary treatment.
